Rio de Janeiro, a port city, is the capital of the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil’s second-most populous and wealthiest city. With a population of 6.32 million, Rio de Janeiro receives over 7 million tourists every year.

Rio de Janeiro has the fourth-largest GDP in Latin America, the 30th largest in the world, and its economy is driven mostly by the chemical, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, metallurgical, mineral extraction and shipbuilding industries.

The city has the third-largest Brazilian port, moving over 6.1 million tons and almost 300,000 TEUs in 2016. The Port of Rio de Janeiro is responsible for serving 22 states.

Rio de Janeiro has the second-largest logistics market in Brazil, and Prologis operates two industrial parks in the region, both located on major highways close to the city.
